The Southwest Center for Occupational and Environmental Health (SWCOEH) at the University of Texas-Houston School of Public Health is pleased to announce that funds have been made available from NIOSH to support small research projects by doctoral and postdoctoral students, junior investigators in occupational health and safety, and established investigators in the non-traditional research disciplines of occupational safety and health. Awards are limited to eligible institutions in Federal Region VI (Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas). Preference will be given to research projects that are applied in nature, innovative, and of relevance to Region VI. Awards will be made on a competitive basis.
Junior investigator and research trainee projects may be for up to 8 months with a maximum budget of $10,000 (inclusive of direct and indirect costs). Established investigator projects may be for up to 8 months and a maximum budget of $20,000. Details, criteria and application forms can be obtained through the SWCOEH Web Page at: http://www.sph.uth.tmc.edu/swcoeh/Pilot%20Research/Cover%20Page.
The deadline for receipt of a letter of intent to submit a proposal is July 8, 2001. The application deadline is August 12, 2001. We expect to announce awards in September 2001. It is likely that our Center will continue to repeat this offering on an annual basis.
