OSU Language Lab Center

Last Updated: 2/28/2006

The Foreign Language Lab Center is located in rooms 205, 206 and 207 of Gundersen Hall, which is just east of the Student Union.

Room 205 is an iMac computer/Tandberg recording lab available to currently enrolled foreign language students for out-of-class assignments. First year students of French, German, Japanese, Russian and Spanish have required weekly visits to the 205 Lab and each student’s lab attendance is recorded. These students receive a lab orientation to help them with initial log in, lab policies, programs and character-set typing specific to their language study. Students may refer to the course syllabus regarding lab credits for the course in which they are enrolled.

Room 206 is a service office where currently enrolled students of a foreign language may receive assistance with language programs and equipment specific to our labs or check out foreign films on VHS or DVD. The staff in this office record student lab attendance.

Room 207 is a multimedia/Elice digital language lab equipped with iMac computers and used predominantly for classes. The interactive technology of this lab is ideal for practicing and testing oral proficiency.

Students will find each of our two 28-user labs fully equipped with iMac computers and listening/recording devices. The iMac computers are especially helpful for first and second-year students of French, German, Japanese, Russian and Spanish who are required to purchase language software or online language programs that accompany their textbooks. Students will also find that our iMac computers are specifically designed for their foreign character-set typing and dictation assignments. For practice, students may want to take advantage of vocabulary building and grammar exercises, play games or view foreign films in the target language. Internet search engines are also installed especially for intermediate and advanced learners to use as resources for information. Students may also take advantage of the listening/recording devices. These are effective tools for comparing their own pronunciation with that of a model speaker.

The Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures offers courses in the following languages:

French, German, Japanese, Latin, Greek, Russian, Spanish
